Fostering Community Increases your ROI

Email: The Unsung Powerhouse of ROI.

After our team karaoke night a couple of weeks ago, we’ve been thinking a lot about fostering community both within our organization and with our clients. Our team had a blast spending that time together, getting to know each other better, and discovering secret singing talent we never would have uncovered if we’d only interacted through our day-to-day work.

A focus on creating lasting connections has always been central to our work here at AC Creative Collective, and it’s something we hope to impress upon our clients as they build their own businesses and communities. We figured it was about time we shared a post explaining why we believe a focus on community is so important when creating marketing plans and strategies.

With the launch of our new e-learning course, which walks you through the process of establishing a strong marketing strategy from the beginning, it felt like the perfect time to explore one of the first learning objectives in the course: understanding the value of community when creating a marketing plan. We don’t want to simply tell you that community is important, we want you to understand why it matters so that you can decide how it aligns with your own values and feel more connected to that goal as you move forward in your business journey.

When you get to the root of it, many of our marketing recommendations center around building community. Whether it’s identifying your target audience, establishing your brand values and the values you share with potential clients or customers, or thinking about how your product or service solves a problem or fills a gap in someone’s life, all of these strategies require you to think more intentionally about the people you’re serving. The better you understand your audience, the easier it becomes to create meaningful connections that go beyond a single purchase.

The most important thing we can impress upon you is that community matters. Integrating it into your marketing plan is invaluable because it transforms your audience from passive followers into active partners in your brand’s success. It builds trust, loyalty, and long-term momentum in ways that traditional marketing strategies alone simply can’t. Marketing isn’t just about getting your business in front of more people, it’s about giving people a reason to stay connected once they find you.

We’ve already mentioned a few of the benefits of integrating community into your marketing plan, but now we’re going to dive a bit deeper into some of the biggest reasons why investing in your community is worth it.

First up, and perhaps the most obvious, is that it builds stronger trust and loyalty. When customers feel engaged and like they can trust your brand and what you have to say, they start forming an emotional connection with your business. That connection makes them much more likely to stick with you long-term, even when competitors may be louder, cheaper, or more visible.

Connecting with your community can also become a form of free marketing that is much more trustworthy than any campaign without these values behind it, most notably through word-of-mouth. A healthy community talks about you without being asked. This can show up in many ways. Maybe it’s someone recommending your services to a friend over coffee or sharing one of your posts because it resonated with them. Maybe they create their own content featuring your product or service, invite friends to your events, or recommend your business in their group chats and circles. All of these things carry a level of authenticity that paid advertisements simply can’t replicate because they come from real experiences with people they already trust.

Another benefit of connecting with your community is that it helps you create a sharper, more authentic brand identity. Showing up consistently at local events, participating in online conversations, supporting causes you genuinely care about, and engaging with your audience over time all help shape how people perceive your business.

This kind of involvement also increases brand visibility where it matters most. Every interaction creates another “I’ve seen them before” moment in someone’s mind. Those moments build familiarity and can often lead to trust. When people consistently see your business showing up in meaningful ways, they begin associating your brand with reliability and authenticity.

Last, but certainly not least, seeing a community grow around your business is incredibly rewarding. Watching customers connect with each other, celebrate your successes, provide thoughtful feedback, or recommend your business because they believe in what you’re doing is an amazing feeling. It reminds you that your work is making an impact not only through the products you sell or the services you provide, but also by bringing people together.
